Wine tourism has become an emerging travel trend which is constantly growing. The term “wine tourism” practically embraces all those activities that a visitor can carry out at any place with a wine interest (a guided tour in a winery, for example). Attending a wine expo or a wine festival could be characterized as wine tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Greece, following the global trend, activities and events associated with wine are continuously increasing, giving a pleasant \u201cheadache\u201d to wine lovers. In each wine region at least one feast involving wine is organized on a yearly basis and most winemakers cooperate with tourism professionals in order to offer high quality hospitality to their guests. Wineries that receive visitors are multiplying and, in our country at least, there is always a winery in less than an hour drive from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Attica region, which remains the largest wine-producing area of the country, there are dozens of ideas for wine lovers. You only need to plan your trip properly and inform the winemaker in advance about your visit. A phone call or an email is all that is needed by the winemaker in order for them to be prepared for your visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A ride that I personally enjoy is taking the coastal road leading to Sounio. After a relaxed drive on a sunny day, we reach Anavissos and Strofilia Estate. People there are amongst the most hospitable winemakers you will meet. The visit includes an informative tour of the industrial section of the winery, where they produce, mature, bottle and store their wines. You can see the tanks, the barrels and learn all about the winemaking procedure. There is a separate tasting room where visitors can try and buy all of Strofilia\u2019s wines. Strofilia owns two wineries, one in Anavissos, Attica and one in Asprokampos, Peloponnese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
